Important information

  • Always sterilise the cup before using it for the first time at the beginning of your menstrual cycle. You can do this by boiling it in a pan of water for 5 minutes or in the sterilising bag.
  • Always wash your hands with soap and water before you insert or remove your menstrual cup.
  • Never leave your cup in for more than 12 hours before removing, emptying and cleaning it.
  • Relax and take your time when inserting your menstrual cup. The cup is made from 100% medical-grade silicone and is safe to use. The menstrual cup cannot get lost inside your body but will remain inside your vagina. You will get it out.

Inserting EmpowerCup

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Fold the menstrual cup as shown in the adjacent illustration. The cup should be folded so that it looks like a C at the top. You should hold the C with the help of your thumb and forefinger.
  • Find the right position for you. Some prefer to squat down, others prefer to stand with one foot on the toilet seat. Choose what feels best for you.
  • Insert the menstrual cup’s uppermost part in your vaginal opening in the same way you would insert a tampon. A tip is to rinse the cup with a little water before inserting it for extra moisture, which makes it easier to insert.
  • When the menstrual cup’s uppermost part is just inside the vaginal opening, we recommend that you wiggle the cup a little by holding the little ball at the bottom. As you wiggle the cup gently and push it upwards a little at a time, you will let in a small amount of air. This makes it easier for the menstrual cup to unfold properly.
  • Once the ball stem at the bottom of the menstrual cup is situated inside your vaginal opening, the cup is in place and you are ready to devote yourself to something other than thinking about your period for the next 12 hours. If you bleed heavily on certain days, you can empty the cup more often than every 12 hours in order to prevent leakage.

Removing & emptying EmpowerCup

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Insert your forefinger (your middle finger can also be used) into your vagina and slide it alongside the menstrual cup.
  • Push the cup downwards a little with the help of your chosen finger.
  • Take a hold of the ball stem with the help of your chosen finger and thumb.
  • Carefully pull the cup down by holding the ball stem until it nears the vaginal opening.
  • Once it has almost reached the vaginal opening, pinch the base of the cup. By pinching the menstrual cup, you break the seal that can form – it will then become easier to pull the cup out.
  • Empty the menstrual cup into the toilet.
  • Rinse the cup with water and insert it again according to the instructions above.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water.

It’s not unusual for it to take several tries before finding the right technique and, not least, feel entirely comfortable with using the menstrual cup, however this is completely normal. Give it several proper attempts and a bit of time, and you will find that it will quickly become second nature. Our surveys show that 9 out of 10 women who start using a menstrual cup do not go back to their previous sanitary protection.

We hope and believe that you will like and feel comfortable with EmpowerCup!
